On December 30, 2009 , the 32nd Optoelectronics Forum was held at the meeting room A101 in Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics (WNLO). Prof. Steven Cheng, who is a Member of American Engineering Academy and Dean of College of Polymer Science & Engineering in Akron University, gave a lecture of Self-assembly of soft matter/nanoparticle hybrids in energy and electron/optical Applications to the faculty and students in Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST). The lecture was held by Professor Guang Yang. Lin Lin, Party secretary of WNLO in HUST, awarded Professor Cheng the Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics Forum badge.
Professor Cheng firstly elaborated the importance of being farsighted, inclusive and applicable in doing research. He also called on domestic researchers to calm down and engage themselves in doing research. Later on, he discussed his own achievements in the research of C60 particles and organic polymers POSS. In addition, he predicted with convincing theory and research outgrowths that these composite materials would be widely applied in the fields of the conductive electrode, micro-capacitors, solar cells, etc.
Prof. Chen gave the lectures with personal characteristics. He not only described the research work simply and accessibly but also put forward that graduate students need the persistence to work hard for greater success with his own experience. The report gained applause from audience several times in two hours .At the end, according to questions raised by the students, Prof.Chen answered earnestly. He informed listeners of knowledge in the field of self-assembled polymer materials and impressed them with his humor, assiduous spirit, and comprehensive knowledge, which brought us spiritual enlightenment and made us benefit much .
Professor Cheng was visiting the National Nano Drug Engineering Technology Center
