The 29th Annual Conference of the Canadian Biomaterials Society (CBS2011) was held in Vancouver, Canada from June 1 to June 4, 2011. Professor Guang Yang and PhD.candidatet Lin Huang were invited to give the oral presentations "Skin Tissue Repair Materials from Bacterial Cellulose"and "A Novel 3D-network Nano-cellulose as the Extended-release Drug Carriers" respectively. Experts and scholars from more than twenty countries and regions in Asia, Africa and the Americas such as Canada, Brazil, Britain, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, New Zealand, China, the United States, Israel and so on, gathered in the University of British Columbia (UBC). The representative units included UBC, University of Toronto, Simon Fred University, University of Montreal, Laval University, Kaohsiung Medical University, and so on. The representative experts included professor Buddy D. Ratner from the University of Washington (Title: Biomaterials Surfaces and How My Thinking on This Subject Has Changed), researcher Steve Weiner from Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel (Title: Tooth-Mandible System: Response to Mechanical Loads), professor Bas Masri from UBC (Topic: Metal on Metal Hip Replacement, the Vancouver Experience), professor York N. Hsiang from UBC (Title: Clinical Challenges on the Use of Current Devices and Biomaterials in Vascular Surgery), and professor Brian K. Kwon from UBC (Title: The Biological Challenges of Spinal Cord Injury - A Translation Perspective). After the meeting, they paid a visit to professor Rizhi Wang and professor Frank Ko from the Department of Materials Engineering of UBC.
