Organized by the Molecular Characterization Group of the Polymer Science Committee of the Chinese Chemical Society, undertaken by Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan University, Wuhan Qien Technology Development Co., Ltd., Zhuhai Guojia New Material Co., Ltd., Hubei New Blue Sky New Materials Co., Ltd. The 11th National Symposium on Polymer Molecular and Structural Characterization was held at the Hyatt Regency Wuhan Optics Valley from October 17th to 19th, 2018. Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Professor Zhang Yina of Wuhan University served as the chairman of the conference. Professor Yang Guang from the School of Life Science and Technology of Huazhong University of Science and Technology was the executive chairman of the conference. About 400 representatives from 72 universities and institutes across the country participated in the conference. The conference received 252 papers, including 12 conference reports, 62 conference reports, and 45 conference reports. There were 25 reports in the Graduate Forum and 108 posters on the exhibition. The conference also received strong support from the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the School of Life Science and Technology of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, the National Nanomedical Engineering Technology Research Center of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and the China Polymer Network www.polymer.cn.
On the morning of October 18th, the opening ceremony was hosted by Xu Jian, a researcher at the Institute of Chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Academician Zhang Yuna, Chairman of the General Assembly, Professor Xiao Xiaolin, Vice President of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and Yang Xiangliang, Executive Vice President of the School of Life Science and Technology, respectively delivered a welcome speech.
On the morning of the 18th and the afternoon of the 19th, a total of 12 conference reports were held at the conference. Including: Academician Zhang Yuanna's "Characteristics of Molecular Weight and Chain Conformation of Polysaccharides in Dilute Solutions"; "Unconventional Phase Function-Oriented Giant Molecular Topological Engineering" by Academician of the American Academy of Engineering and Professor Cheng Zhengdi of South China University of Technology; Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Hong Kong Chinese Professor Wu Qi's "volume phase change: continuous or non-continuous?"; Chinese Academy of Sciences, Institute of Physical and Chemical Technology, Jiang Lei, researcher, "bionic super-wetting system: from materials to chemistry"; Chen Xuesi, researcher, Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences "Chemical and physical structure and performance regulation of polylactic acid materials"; "Multi-component polymer material rheology" by Professor Zheng Qiang of Zhejiang University; "Characteristics of polymer microstructure" by Mr. Qiao Jinliang, chief expert of China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation "The important role in the development of new products"; Professor Li Liangbin of the University of Science and Technology of China, "Synchronous Radiation High-throughput Research Platform for Polymer Materials Processing and Service Behavior"; Professor Zhang Hongbin of Shanghai Jiaotong University, "The Polysaccharide Structure Based on Food and Drug Applications And rheological characterization"; Fudan Professor Chen Guozhen's "self-assembly of proteins based on sugar-protein interactions"; Professor Han Hongwei from Huazhong University of Science and Technology "High-resolution materials in printed mesoscopic solar cells" and Professor Long Dong from the University of Science and Technology of China Nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy was used to detect the "hidden state" of protein conformation in solution. The report of the conference was brilliant and received a warm welcome from the participants.
This symposium continued the four themes of the previous session, namely, polymer molecular and structural characterization, polymer solutions, sols and gels, polymer surface and interface, and polymer structure properties. Around these topics, the delegates conducted in-depth discussions and exchanges, bringing the latest research progress and cutting-edge dynamics. The meeting arranged the reports of young scholars as much as possible, and set up a special forum for postgraduate students. A total of 25 students gave oral presentations. After the professional comments of senior professors and enthusiastic discussions with the students, they achieved good results. This conference will play an important role in improving the research level of molecular and structural characterization of polymers in China, promoting the research of polymer base and application in China and the development of polymer industry.
Compared with the previous session, this session also added a special field of cellulose molecular and structural characterization, and 11 representatives who are active in cellulose basic research and industrial development made wonderful reports. Subsequently, the Chinese Chemical Society's Cellulose Professional Committee was formally elected. Professor Fu Qiang of Sichuan University was elected as the chairman. Professor Yang Guang, researcher Zhang Jun of the Institute of Chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Cai Jie of Wuhan University, and Professor Jin Yongcan of Nanjing Forestry University were elected as deputy directors. Academician Zhang Yuna and researcher Huang Yong of the Institute of Physics and Chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences are advisory members.
At the closing ceremony on the afternoon of the 19th, Academician Zhang Yuna announced the winners of eight outstanding graduate report awards and 12 outstanding wall poster awards, and awarded certificates, prizes and photos for the winners. Professor Yang Guang, Executive Chairman of the meeting, summarized the meeting at the closing ceremony.
The twelfth session will be held in Chongqing in 2020 and will be led by Professor Guo Mingming from Southwest University.
